Fishing Report

How's this for a report - I just returned from putting storm lines on the boat and my hands were so cold I barely could move my fingers. I went and picked up a new snow thrower, turned up the heat and I am watching the snow come down as I write this. Remember Ken's reports when we had the great fluke fishing this summer, the part about "go fishing now..." Well it looks like we won't be out for a few days.

Wednesday

Onboard today were Paradise Pete, Randy 300, Felix the Bounty Hunter, Mark S. and Ken. After the hot fishing on the weekend we were ready to do it again but the blackfish had different plans. We did not land a fish until two hours into the trip as we watied for the tide to change. When the current did start running we picked at some very finicky blackfish. It wasn't a total bust as the guys had some nice fillets but I quess we are just getting spoiled and don't expect a slow day once in a while. On Tuesday Evelyn and I fished with Capt. Steve on the Skylarker and had a good trip to the mudhole with Ev landing a nice bluefin tuna.

Weekend Report

We got on the blackfish both days and had very good fishing. Many shorts but if you waited them out some nice 4 to 6lbers. came over the rail. A try for bass on sunday afternoon was a bust but there are some around as the boats fishing for them on saturday did good. It seems like the green crab shortage is over for now, so we will be fishing for blackfish and stripers for the rest of the season.

Tuesday

Today we tried to continue the hot bass bite of last week. Onboard were Ken, Mark S., George G., George JR. and Uncle Andy. The stripers had other things in mind. While I read fish on the scope, we could not get any to bite. I tried different spots on different tides but not a bite. We broke out the few remaining green crabs and salvaged the day with a pick at the blackfish. Young George did a fine job today, baiting his own hook, and outfishing his Dad.

Weekend Report

Saturday we stayed in port due to the high winds. Sunday started off with the wind still blowing. I was thinking about trying for bass when we left the dock but the wind was howling and the seas in the bay were standing 4 footers. We went blackfishing instead and had an excellent day playing catch and release, keeping a few five pounders for the table. I spent the whole day Friday trying to track down some green crabs for bait and was lucky enough to get some for this weekend but all future trips depend on the availability of bait.

Back at it

We are back from our annual fall fishing trip in New England. The weather was beautiful and the fishing was OK, a mix of cod haddock pollack and the elusive cusk. I have some openings for striped bass and blackfish depending on the availability of green crabs, there seems to be a shortage.Call for info.
