Nice Weather!

After yesterday's cold and a change in the forcast we decided to hop on the Angler as my favorite cod boat had a full crew. Very tough anchoring conditions with the lack of wind but Capt George was determined. We went to the marble tiles and it was like old times for twenty minutes ( St. Pete, you should have been there!) Plenty of blackfish and some ling. If the weather holds there should be good fishing for the next few weeks.

Christmas Cod Trip Report

What a day with Capt Steve aboard the Skylarker. We had a great crew onboard, Saint Pete, Randy, Capt Fred, Blackfish Ken, Jim from Sandy Hook Pilots, Paul the mate from the Mary M out of Barnegate Light, Evelyn and Myself, and that #1 mate Tim B. I was concerned about the weather before we left the dock as the early reports from the offshore bouys were showing high seas, but the ocean was fairly nice and quite fishable. About an 1 1/2 hr. ride to the mudhole (Steve's new boat is faster then the last one) and we were in to fish all day. A barrel full of keeper cod up to 18lbs., some shorts, as well as a nice mix of ling, sea bass and blackfish. The fishing was good all day long despite the strong current that made anchoring difficult and it was very strange not to see another fishing boat all day long. Everyone went home with full fillet bags, plenty of fish for those special Christmas and New Years dinners. Call me or Capt Steve if yopu would like to put together one of these trips. You won't be dissapointed!

A Cold and Breezy Day

On Saturday Evelyn and I fished with Capt. George on the Angler and had a nice day out at the Scotland grounds. The blackfishing was spotty, but it was nice to see a good showing of ling in only 70 feet of water. The ling fishing should only improve with the cooler water temps. Our special holiday cod trip on the Skylarker will be moved to Tuesday due to the weather.

Great Weather and Fishing

We fished with Capt. Steve aboard the Jamaica II on Wednesday and had a great day. Evelyn, Myself and Tim ( the deckhand on the Skylarker ) filled a 100 qt. cooler with ling. Evelyn had two keeper cod, the largest about 8lbs.( just missed the pool by a few ounces) and a nice sea bass. Tim also had a keeper cod. Warm weather, calm seas, dolphins playing around the boat all day, is it really December?

December Fishing

I just got back from Florida and 80 degree temperatures and it feels really cold here. The nice weather of November seems to be carrying over in to this month and the fishing remains good. I am a little sorry the boat is put away for the winter after hearing the reports. Stripers are still chasing the sand eels, along with bluefish and bluefin tuna. Amazing. Blackfish remain strong, ling are showing up, sea bass are starting to bite offshore, I hope I can get out before the winter weather arrives.
