Hot Summer Daze
Friday saw some slow fluke fishing in the heat as some good anglers struggled to get a few. Saturday, we had "Staten Island" Tony from Brooklyn (who lives in NJ) and the crew aboard and caught a bunch up to 4 1/2lbs. Some Polish guy from Bayonne ( Tom K.) had four and Scott had a limit. Joe Fish was NOT aboard. Sunday brought changes on the fishing grounds, as a new body of shorts moved into the area. We saw cow-nosed rays swimming around the boat, and squid were chasing the baits. We caught fluke all day long, everywhere we went. Some spots that were barren all season had fish on them but many were short. We also saw the first few weakfish of the summer. "Jiggin' Jack had a 6 plus pound fluke in his catch and Roger had three up to five pounds. It looks like the summer fluke are finally moving into the traditional fishing spots.
