Friday's Cod Trip
You don't get many 50 degree days in January so you have to take advantage of them. The SW wind that brought the warm temperatures also made for some sporty conditions in the morning as it gusted over twenty knots. The cod bite was slow with a few keepers boated as we had to fight through the endangered spiny dogfish and big black sea bass. The wind and seas backed off during the day and we tried deeper waters and caught a mess of ling to fill the fillet bags. Lots of fun fishing with old friends in the middle of the winter and cod fillets on the table tonight. We saw schools of striped bass as we approached the inlet in calm seas. It has been as while since we had a winter like this so try to go fishing now while it lasts. Capt Steve will be tying up the Skylarker soon but he is running the J2 this week. Capt George will try to sail the Angler until the end of the month. The Pioneer will ready for striped bass and winter flounder in April.
