It was a perfect summer day to be on the water. The only problem was the breeze and the tide made it very difficult to fish in the deep water. Off to the shallow [16 to 28 feet] and the bite was red hot. Two and three fluke on at a time. Tom was the fisherman of the day with a 5 1/2 and 4 1/2lb. to beat out Mike C. to win the pool.

SAT. I had Mike from NYC along with his Dad and friends, and Skip aboard for todays open boat trip. Started in the deep a caught a few nice fluke and then we lost the drift. A nasty south wind blew up in the afternoon and ruined the deep water bite, so I tried the shallow water and it was loaded with fluke. The last drift went for one mile, over thirty minutes. Skip was pulling fish as soon as he hit the bottom. A real nice crew and a good fun day. SUN. Back to the deep water and less then ideal conditions. The drift was a little fast but we toughed it out for a nice pick at the big fluke. Roger's 7lber. beat out Rebecca's 6 1/2 and Tom's 6 to win the pool. Other 4 and 5lbers., everyone went home with fillets.

A great day of deep water fluking. Many limits around the boat. All keepers were 4 to 7 3/4lbs. Felix had the biggest at 28 inches, 7 3/4lbs. 'Tugboat' Fred, 6 and 6 1/2lbs. Plenty of 4's and 5's. Providing you the opportunity to catch trophy fluke is what we do! 4 spots available for SAT. 6/25 open boat trip.

SAT "Oil Man" Chris and the crew from Clifton had a fun day on the water. I fished in the bay and tried some spots for the first time this season. Fishing ranged from slow to good, but the fish were on the small side. SUN WE headed back out to the ocean to look for bigger fish and were greeted with the best bite of the season so far. At times, all rods were bending with fluke. We fished various spots and found fish in 17 to 70 feet of water. Over 200 fluke were landed up to 4 1/2lbs.

Capt Fred brought the crew from West Milford down for a day of fluke fishing. I ran the trip single handed, so out to the ocean we went for long drifts and plenty of action. The guys wore me out netting fish. Pete had a 41/2lb. Rich had a 4lb., Bob had a 5lb. and Fred had a 5 and 41/2lb. among his best. It was a great day to be out on the water.

Saturdays charter canceled, so we sailed open boat with Joe and Mike. The weather turned gloomy as the day went on. The fluke started biting well but slowed down as the wind increased from the east. Dispite the conditions we picked away and had a fun day. Sunday I thought we were in for more of the same, but it actually turned into a nice day. We found biting fluke everywhere we tried. Many fish in the 17 to 20 inch range and at times it was 'drop and reel'. Ken had a pair of 5lbers. Everyone caught a lot of fluke.
