NE Winds

It is unusual to have a week of easterly weather along the Jersey shore this time of year and it is forecast to continue into next week. While creating rough seas, the easterly fetch also brings in warmer offshore water and the fishing has been improving. Monday we fished way to the south in rough seas for blues and had a good day with small blues, big thimble eye mackerel and also released four black tip sharks. Wednesday found us offshore bottom fishing and we had some jumbo sea bass, ling, fluke, winter flounder, mackerel and gray triggerfish. Cool stuff. Don't forget Sunday 8/6 fluke and sea bass, last time fluking saw a bunch of limits around the boat and a boat limit of sea bass.

Next Big Trip - Sunday 8/6

We had some pretty good fishing the past week, so we will have a fluke and sea bass trip on Sunday August 6th for all my Pioneer fishing buddies. Call me or send an e-mail, text, telegraph, certified letter or smoke signal to reserve a spot! 6am to 2pm aboard the Skylarker.

What a Day

Nice weather, nice people, and a great fluke and sea bass bite. Boat limit of sea bass by 11 am and everyone went home with a keeper fluke. Five pound fluke beat a four pound sea bass for the pool. Let's get out there and get 'em. I have an open trip for "Pioneers" coming up, stay tuned, and don't forget the new e mail, I  may know how to work it by then.

How Could That Be?

I drove over the Verrenzano bridge today. Looking out over the "Pioneer Banks", Coney island, Ambrose Channel, the islands, west bank and far out to sea, not a single boat was fishing. I never thought it would happen.

Busy Summer Days

I have been helping Capt Steve with big parties of novice fisherman. Swinging boat rods and bait, I spend the day unhooking various forms of trash ( sea robins, skates, dogfish, pin bass...) to make a boat limit of sea bass. A few anglers with their own gear catch a limit of fluke and jumbo sea bass bouncing jigs. Oh, I wish I could work the grounds with a bunch of "Pioneer" regulars. We would fill the box.

Fish Report

There are some fluke around now. More shorts in the mix and good anglers ( I haven't been seeing much of those lately) can catch a couple keepers. Sea Bass continue to please and there are some nice ling and flounders fifteen miles out.

Sea Bass

We took 30 landlubbers with boat rods today and had a boat limit of no-measure necessary ,big blue knuckleheads in no time. I need a few good anglers for next Tuesday, looking for big fluke and big sea bass. I heard about a 13lb. fluke caught today. Only seven weeks left to catch a fluke dinner, or you can buy them for $22.50 per pound.

Sea Bass

We are now allowed to keep two sea bass per person until September. The bottom of the ocean is covered with them, and it doesn't take long to get a boat limit while fluke or ling fishing. Sea bass for dinner today, Happy Fourth of July!
